Why It’s Necessary to Document Your Remodeling Projects

As a homeowner, it is a great feeling to see your home remodeling project going according to plan. However, it always helps to document the progress in case something unexpected happens. Most professional contractors already do this as part of their documenting process, but you can still take a few pictures so you can have a record of it yourself. Here’s why taking progress photos is important.

You Have Visual Proof of the Project

This is crucial if you’re planning to sell your home. If you take before and after photos of your remodeling projects, you can post them online to attract potential buyers. When your home’s up for sale, you can also show the photos to potential buyers when they inspect it in person. However, this won’t always be enough to prove you’ve made renovations, so make sure to collect receipts of your home’s renovation history. You can also create a reference list of what was modified or remodeled in your home and who did it.

You Keep Track of Different Projects

If you have a growing family, you might have already had previous renovations to accommodate your changing needs. Structural changes that were made must be documented to keep better track of what’s behind the walls and beneath the floors of your home. It also prevents accidentally damaging other placements during your bathroom or kitchen remodeling project, such as the plumbing and electrical wiring.

You’ll Know Who Did the Renovations

Documenting your progress also helps remind you who’s doing what in your home remodeling project. Keeping their contact numbers can be useful later when encountering unexpected issues with some parts of your home. For instance, if you have plumbing issues in your bathroom after remodeling, you’ll know who to approach to fix it.
