Factors That Can Make or Break a Bathroom Remodel

A remodeled bathroom can improve your home’s functionality and comfort. If you’re thinking of selling your house in the future, this project can also increase its value. However, major home remodels like this require proper planning to ensure success.

Here are the factors that can make or break a bathroom remodeling project in this post.

Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important components of a bathroom. It would be hard to put on makeup or do your hair when your bathroom is dark. Layering is key when it comes to achieving good lighting. There are three types of lighting that you can use for this part of your home. First is ambient or general lighting, which fills most of the room. Accent lighting, such as picture lights or track lighting, is used to illuminate a particular focal point. Then, there’s also task lighting, which helps you in completing a certain task. It could be a pendant light or a lighted mirror.

Layout

You can either stick with the existing layout of your bathroom or go for a different one. However, changing the layout can be one of the major expenses of your remodel. Also, you need to be sure of this decision because it’s not just something that can be easily altered. Making a list of the problems you’re experiencing with the current layout of your bathroom can help you decide whether you need to change or not. Make sure to discuss these notes with your designer or remodeling or general contractor during the planning process.

Material Quality

You must carefully choose the materials for your bathroom remodeling project as they can significantly affect the durability, appearance and functionality of the room. Since bathrooms are usually not big, every feature and flaw can be obvious. You’ll need to choose good materials for the flooring, countertops, cabinets, fixtures, backsplashes, lighting and other special features. It would help to visit a showroom and speak with an expert to help you determine which materials are best for your needs.
